27.06.25

More than 350 wine experts attended this year's "Riesling, Pinot & Co" presentation in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Fully booked masterclasses, moderated by the renowned wine journalist and Magister Vini Lars Daniels, were a successful prelude to further tastings among experts.

Chardonnay - The Next Big Thing

The first tasting was dedicated entirely to German Chardonnay, which is increasingly being praised as „the big cinema“ and „the next big thing“ and with good reason: the area under cultivation of this noble Burgundy variety has almost doubled in the last ten years and now covers around 3,000 hectares. Thanks to the cooler climate, the diverse vineyards and the constantly growing expertise of German winegrowers, wines with a strong character and unmistakable profile are being produced.</p <p>Masterclasses with young winemakers

The second masterclass was an exclusive Talk & Taste round with three dedicated members of Generation Riesling:

  • Luise Böhme (Klaus Böhme winery, Saale-Unstrut)
  • Luca Michels (Bretz Winery, Rheinhessen)
  • Lucas Trossen (Gerhard Trossen Winery, Moselle)

Lars Daniels discussed with Generation Riesling members the developments and changes they have initiated in their wineries. The audience gained exciting insights into the mindset and working methods of these young, quality-orientated winegrowers.

Following the masterclasses, 32 German wineries and seven importers presented their wines to the Dutch trade audience. The presentation was specifically aimed at the Dutch audience and offered a wide range of wine styles, grape varieties and regions of origin - from classic Rieslings to various Burgundy grape varieties and sparkling wines.

One trade visitor summed it up: "An inspiring afternoon full of discoveries, expertise, new contacts – and of course excellent wines in the glass.
