Weingut Dr. Bürklin-Wolf - Outstanding Vinothek in Pfalz

Weingut Bürklin-Wolf stands for fantastic Rieslings cultivated biodynamically from the best locations in the Pfalz (Palatinate): Forster Kirchenstück, Jesuitengarten und Ungeheuer or Deidesheimer Hohenmorgen and Langenmorgen are just some of their premium sites. Bettina Bürklin-von Guradze has been managing the winery since 1992. She has made a significant contribution to the rise of the business with the aim of providing dry Rieslings with an international reputation from the best locations in the Mittelhaardt.

Biodynamics is the focus of the management and the vineyards are treated with tender loving care. The combination of biodynamics and the focus on Rieslings from top sites make the winery a prime destination for many wine fans from all over the world. The wines have enormous strength and complexity and show different mineral characteristics, depending on the location.

Weingut Bürklin-Wolf also draws on a wealth of history and can trace its roots back to 1597. A fact, that also played a role in the design of the new vinothek. "The vinothek should look like it has always been there," was the brief from Bettina Bürklin-von Guradze. And indeed, the design ensures precisely this. No modern exposed concrete, no large panoramic windows. The vinothek connects directly to the history of the building.

What used to be a horse stable, then a warehouse, now shines in a new, yet historic, splendour. This was achieved with great sensibility. The old upholstered furniture comes from the owner's collection and has been newly upholstered. Parquet floors and solid wood furniture complete the picture. The murals are also from the winery archive. History is referenced everywhere, free of any kitsch.

The design of the surrounding English garden is also remarkable. In two old winter gardens, guests can stay dry even on wet days. From here you have an unobstructed view of the large landscaped garden of the estate and the vineyards of the Pfalz. The jury honoured the project with the award of Germany's Outstanding Vinothek because it "stands in contrast to the projects with new buildings and deliberately draws attention to the theme of sensitive, careful integration and development."

Those interested in wine are warmly welcomed in the vinothek. "Everyone can find the right glass of wine here," says managing director Steffen Brahner. Two employees are very knowledgeable about the winery, the different sites and work in the cellar and vineyard. For connoisseurs, there are also premium events such as vintage vertical tastings for individual vineyards or spending a full day in the winery with special insights. Another highlight are the “Bürklin.Wein.Zeit.” events that take place on the first weekend of the month from May to October. A food truck offers four dishes that pair with the top Rieslings from the winery.
