2024 Market report
Key take aways from 2024:
- The total sale at Vinmonopolet in 2023 was at 95.6 million liters, the fourth largest sale of all time in a calendar year. Measured against 2019, the last year before the covid pandemic, there was an increase of sales of 16%
- Red wine is still the leading category and has been since the 1970’s. Looking at the first tertial of 2024, there was a decrease for red wine by - 7% and by -3% for white wine in 2024 compared to 2023. Sparkling wine, the 3rd largest category, had a decrease of 5%, while rosé wine, is at a standstill in the first tertial 2024, compared to 2023.
- The wine monopoly attributes the fall in sales to a stern winter with more adverse weather situations than in a normal year – as well as a marked growth in air traffic.

Q3-4 2025 Tenders second half 2025
Twice a year Vinmonopolet release a list with tenders. They are looking for wines from specific areas with specific criteria. All who are producing this type of wine which they are searching for, are welcome to submit their products at Vinmonopolet, trhough their importer. For the first half of 2025, Vinmonopolet are looking for 5 wines from Germany.
Vinmonopolet has the ambtition to become one of Norway's foremost companies in terms of sustainability. The overall increasing environmental awareness helps to creat expectations for their work and they are responsable to offer products that enable consumers to make sustainable choices. Social responsibility is also the foundation when they request products that are certified Fairtrade or Fair for Life. In the same time, Vinmonopolet aim to reduce the environmental impact in the organizition and in the supply chain.
Vinmonopolet has announced that all tenders below 250NOK must be delivered in light weight packaging, in this years plan, this also goes for some products above 250NOK. The trend with environmental-friendly packaging is here to stay. Like previous years there is various types of environmental-friendly packaging and alternative packaging, such as aluminium bottes and plastic in the specification. We believe this will be important in the future and apply most types of products. This will ensure that the packaging is recycled and does not end up in nature.
