Neues deutsches Weinsortiment an Bord von ICE und Intercity
Seit diesem Monat können die Fahrgäste der Deutschen Bahn (DB) im Fernverkehr ein neues Weinsortiment aus deutschen Anbaugebieten genießen.
The German Wine Institute (DWI) once again assisted DB this year with the call for entries and selection of wines. The new collection was selected from 220 submitted wines in two rounds of blind tastings.
Keth and Stolleis on board
The Keth Pinot Gris from the Matthias Keth Winery in Offstein, Rheinhessen, has made its debut on the DB wine list. This white wine impresses with its harmonious richness and an intense bouquet of ripe fruit. Riesling enthusiasts can look forward to the Peter Stolleis Riesling from the winery of the same name in Gimmeldingen, Palatinate, which enriches the selection on ICE and Intercity trains with its peach aromas and multifaceted structure.
Neiss and Schloss Affaltach Sekt
For red wine lovers, the “That’s NEISS Tinto Réserve” cuvée—a powerful, balanced red wine from the Palatinate winery NEISS—is available, delighting with its spicy, fruity notes. Those who prefer something sparkling can toast with a creamy, finely bubbly Riesling Sekt brut from Schloss Affaltrach in Württemberg.
Local Wines as Ambassadors of Fine Dining
DWI Managing Director Melanie Broyé-Engelkes is delighted that local wines will continue to accompany DB passengers on their long-distance journeys as ambassadors of fine dining: “This gives us the opportunity to introduce the special qualities of our wines to a broad audience both at home and abroad. Their presence on Deutsche Bahn’s long-distance trains not only raises awareness of the selected wineries, but also has a positive promotional effect on the image of German wine as a whole.”
Last year, Deutsche Bahn transported 134.5 million passengers on its ICE and Intercity trains. Annual wine and sparkling wine sales in onboard catering average a total of around one million small bottles, with Pinot Gris accounting for the largest share at approximately 400,000 bottles of 0.25 liters each.
